Evil and Love was established in January of 2013 with the intent of creating an environment where tattoo culture could amalgamate with the various facets of art and design. Located just over the Pulaski Bridge in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, Evil and Love rests within a nest of creatives and local businesses along the East River. The shop is both a tattoo parlor and gallery for artwork and apparel.
We are home to a team of artists who strive to create unique designs for their clients with a variety of different styles including traditional Americana, realism, geometric, neo-traditional and floral. Our artists come from unique backgrounds ranging from painting and illustration to graphic design and animation.
Our hours are Monday through Sunday 1pm to 9pm. Walk-ins are welcome but if you have custom work we prefer to have an in-person consultation first where we can discuss your design, schedule, and budget. We typically charge by the hour and price is dependent on individual artists and based on the tattoos complexity i.e. size, color, design. Our shop minimum is $100 and our artists' rates range from $150 to $200 an hour. The deposit for appointments and custom work is $100, this is non-refundable but goes towards the final cost of your tattoo.
When coming to us for a consultation, you should consider bringing in reference material (images that reflect the idea of the tattoo you want) to help us understand your idea. If your design requires us to draw or redesign existing artwork you will be asked to leave a deposit for your artists to work out your final design. After you and the artist have come to an agreement, an appointment can be scheduled for your new tattoo.
Remove the bandage your artist has placed on your tattoo for protection after 2-3 hours. Be sure to rinse the tattoo thoroughly with Dial or unscented/undyed soap and warm water. Make sure to rinse off all the ointment and plasma that may have wept out of your tattoo. Pat dry (do not rub) with a clean paper towel, and with clean hands apply a very thin layer of ointment (we recommend Aquafor, Bacitracin, or Neosporin) over the tattoo. For the first 3-4 days, wash and apply ointment to your tattoo three to four times per day. After that point, switch to an unscented lotion and apply whenever the tattoo feels dry, tight, or itchy. DO NOT scratch, pick, or itch the tattoo or scab (though it is tempting, you must resist the urge!). The first few nights, it's normal for some ink to bleed from your tattoo. Keep the tattoo out of direct sunlight and pool/saltwater for the first 3-4 weeks while it heals.
